A hundred years ago
At the beginning of the 20th century, Nadia Payo became one of the first women with a medical degree. In order to continue her studies, she had to leave her native Odessa (in 1907 in the Russian Empire, women could receive higher education only at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute; in educational institutions of other cities, this opportunity appeared only in 1920). During her medical practice, Payo observed and drew conclusions. This pushed her to the most important step in life. Nadya decided that the development of the beauty industry, then only emerging in the sense we were accustomed to, is one of the tools of emancipation. Guided by this idea, Nadia Payo founded her brand in 1920.

As a good doctor, Nadia Payo wanted not only to "eliminate symptoms", but to work on the causes and prevention of cosmetic problems. For this, it was not enough to create formulas for caring agents. Nadya was going to change traditional ideas about beauty towards a holistic approach: the beauty of the skin is inextricably linked with the health of the body and the state of mind. Dr. Payo proposed a skin care system - a combination of skin care products, special application gestures and facial exercises. This practice, unique for 1920, brought Nadia fame, quickly became popular and has remained so for 100 years. Face fitness and face yoga, if you look, come from that time.

Surprisingly, the first formulas, compiled and mixed by Nadya with his own hand from natural pharmaceutical ingredients - minerals and herbal ingredients - are still being produced and successfully sold all over the world. This is the soothing and anti-irritation Crème # 2 thick cream, Nutricia nourishing cream and the legendary Pate Grise anti-acne paste. The latter was chosen by the headquarters to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Payot: the paste is released in a limited edition collector's bottle.

Payot's own laboratory in Paris develops cosmetics, taking into account the rapid changes in our lifestyles and needs. The brand approached its centenary with excellent results: more than 8000 points of sale on five continents, in 70 countries of the world. New horizons lie ahead, says Marie-Laure Simonin-Brown, President of Payot: “Trends such as naturalness and sustainability are taking over the beauty industry. They push us to look at things from a different angle, to change our habits. Payot is redefining product design with less is more. " Payot is reducing the INCI (International Cosmetic Ingredient) list, increasing the content of ingredients of natural origin. The brand has abandoned booklets with instructions for the products, and uses raw materials from responsible forestry for the production of packaging. Starting in 2021,packaging for new products will be made from recycled or recyclable materials, and from 2025 the entire range will be produced in such packaging.
