The ideologist of the Zielinski & Rozen brand, a tall, dark-skinned brunette, Erez Rozen, is not like his colleagues, other perfumers, who usually talk with a serious face about expensive ingredients and the exclusivity of compositions. When Rosen speaks, his eyes burn, and the thought replaces one another: he either talks about the scent, then recalls interesting stories from life, then jokes, dispensing with memorized texts and marketing sayings.
The perfume house, which Erez has headed for 18 years, appeared in the alleys of old Jaffa back in 1905. All Zielinski & Rozen recipes have references to the beginning of the last century, when Rosen's great-grandfather was still working on the formulas of fragrances. There is nothing fancy in the name of the brand: “Zielinski is the name of the mother, Polish by nationality, and Rozen is the name of his father, he is a Jew”. Visually, the concept of the brand is also simple and laconic: dark glass, bottles like pharmaceutical test tubes, craft packaging.

At home, in Israel, Rosen personally receives several people a day and creates a personal scent in an hour and a half of conversation with each. Zielinski & Rozen is located in the flea market area of Jaffa. It does not at all look like pretentious perfume boutiques, sparkling with huge showcases, but rather resembles a cozy house of a perfumer or an alchemist's haven.
Those who come to the city on vacation say that the local aromas, even if not personal, are the best souvenir that can be taken away from the country. “The scent can tell a lot: who we are, how we feel, how we think, how we behave. It also reveals those facets that we, perhaps, did not notice in ourselves before. Every ingredient, every molecule counts,”says Erez Rosen.

A personal composition session is more like a heart-to-heart conversation with an old friend. And it is very important that it takes place one-on-one with the master. “They often come to me in pairs, for example, a husband wants to make a present to his wife. Since the conversation turns out to be quite personal, not everyone is ready to open up as much as possible in the presence of the other half. And after a while, the woman comes back alone with a request to create the fragrance that she really wants,”says Erez.

The conversation turns to childhood memories and favorite states, and the perfumer quickly writes something down in a notebook, and then hands me cones with different aromas, inviting me to play a game of finding my own scent. Having heard the composition, I have to say one of two words: either "positive" or "negative". And it is desirable to name what first comes to mind - this will be the right choice. Periodically, Erez asks to go out into the fresh air - a necessary movement to reset the nose and mind. During the break, you also need to inhale the aroma of coffee beans from the stored glass.
This creates a personal scent. The process can take thirty minutes or an hour and a half. “Sometimes, it happens, I see a person and at the beginning of a conversation I can already imagine the composition that we will get at the end,” explains the perfumer. - And during a conversation, the concept can suddenly change dramatically. As a result, you can get a scent for every day or a composition to be applied on special occasions."

In the end, there is another important, final stage - to give a name to your fragrance, write it down on the label and attach it to a dark glass bottle. If, in the client's opinion, something is missing in the composition, the perfumer will carefully add a few drops from his cones.
“Apply scent on both sides of your shoulders: when you hug or kiss when meeting someone you know, they will automatically inhale it, and then associate this scent with you. Be careful when spraying perfume on your hair, as the smell of shampoo can completely change it.
