An acquaintance of mine, who has lived in Helsinki for several years, told a funny story: if you unknowingly land on the seat next to someone on the bus, a random neighbor can leave by jumping over you - before that, in the Nordic countries they value personal space.

Scandinavia is really free: if you travel around the region (especially its northern part), you may not meet a single living soul for several miles. It is in these parts that you can really take a break from the frenzied Moscow bustle, be alone with yourself and, slowly ironing, put your thoughts on the shelves.

And it is most convenient to do this while sitting in a cozy bathhouse with a panoramic window between races into the icy, but so alluring North Sea: the head is cleared for one or two times - it has been verified by personal experience. Just such an opportunity exists on the territory of the Varbergs Kusthotell resort, located in the small Swedish town of Varberg.

But the hotel spa is not limited to one hut on the shore - inside the mansion there is a thermal complex: more popular among guests than the often completely empty street "branch", but at the same time much more spacious and equipped.

First, it is worth getting into the comfortable, warm sea water - the mineralized liquid is supplied to the indoor pool directly from the coast, but it is heated to the temperature of the Indian Ocean. Then move to the area with a steam bath, dry sauna, plunge pool and jacuzzi. It is better to come during breakfast and lunch: as a rule, there is not a soul here, but even at rush hour you can be sure that in the steam room no one will bother you with stupid conversations or ask where you bought such successful swimming trunks, and the pool with hydromassage will not fill up to the state of a barrel of herring (with all due respect to this seafood locals).

After warming up, diving in and having plenty of bubbles, go up one floor above: there is a relaxation room with ergonomic couches and comfortable rope swings, climbing into which you can think about the meaning of life literally floating back and forth half a meter from the floor.

There are also rooms where massages and wraps are performed. But even during the procedures, you can be alone with yourself: along with the traditional kneading of the back and rubbing with algae, the spa has a horizontal shower that performs massage without any assistance. You just need to choose a program: balancing, invigorating and anti-stress, and then the equipment of the German brand Dornbracht will do everything independently.

You will lie on a warm stone slab (and without any feeling of embarrassment for your nudity), and warm and cool streams will spill first on the top of your head, then on your buttocks, then on your heels and shoulders: in turn and at the same time, dancing the rhythm known by one clever technique … Surprisingly, after 20 minutes of such therapy, you get up already as a completely different person: rested and harmonized.

In this state, it is best to go for a walk along the coast: by the way, there is a picturesque lighthouse nearby (you can post it on Instagram when you are completely tired of complete solitude), and in general, the sea air is great relaxing.

As soon as you get bored with the village flavor and want enlightenment without interrupting your vaping, take a bus to Helsingborg (the journey will take one and a half to two hours), take a ferry ticket there and in some 20 minutes you will find yourself in Denmark. And when you go ashore, you can feel the cultural layer literally under your feet: it is in Helsingor (or Elsinore, as in Shakespeare's) that the Hamlet tragedy takes place.

From here, head straight for Skodsborg, a small town half an hour from downtown Copenhagen, or the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art if traveling in the opposite direction from the capital.

And it is best to stay at the Kurhotel Skodsborg, built on the basis of a mansion that served as the summer residence of the Danish king Frederick VII. In the 19th century, the building was owned by the doctor Karl Ottosen, who turned the tsar's dacha into a sanatorium: one of the first and one of the most modern at that time. Since then, of course, a lot has changed: the interior has been updated, and the wellness area has been reconstructed and improved.

The last one is worth looking at first if you get tired of the road. Start with a foot bath: it should be filled alternately with cold and then warm liquid, as the German priest Sebastian Kneip, famous for his hydrotherapy technique, teaches: it relaxes, improves immunity and prepares for further procedures. Then you can start a raid on the baths, gradually increasing the temperature.

As far as saunas are concerned, there really is plenty to choose from: there is a classic Finnish, hamam, salt and rasul. The pool also has a pleasant variety of options: from the opportunity to just swim to a whole host of different hydromassages and waterfalls. If you want to freshen up, you can always climb into the open-air jacuzzi or walk along the cold corridor: with ankle-deep water and a light haze of finely dispersed drops.

Also, the complex is equipped with 11 rooms, where you can look at relaxing and revitalizing treatments for the face and body. But if you don't want to pay extra, go to the Vertical Shower by Dornbracht - jets of water of different thickness and strength will arrange a massage session for you without a masseur: while the Just Rain “watering can” envelops the body in large pearl drops, a powerful stream of water falls on the shoulders from Water Sheet, and the back is handled by Water Bars.

And having completely refreshed, you can go anywhere: explore a small but representative collection of Louisiana paintings, walk along the Nyhavn Canal or even go to Copenhagen airport: just a few days by the cold seas are enough to recover and reboot.>
