Talk about the Ukrainian rap singer Alyona Alyona has not subsided since October - from the very moment when the girl posted a witty clip "Ribki" on YouTube. The listeners were instantly hooked. Since then, Alena has released three singles, shot six clips (on average, two million views each) and on April 8 shot at close range with the album "Cannon", which instantly burst into the audition tops. Despite the fact that rap in the CIS is still a male territory, Alena unconditionally and with open arms was accepted, it seems, by everyone: from mastodons like Vladi from "Caste" to the inhabitants of the hip-hop portal The Flow. We decided to discuss the phenomenon of Alyona Alyona with Alena herself.

- I'm not exactly a rap historian, but I don't remember a case when both the artists and the audience would unanimously respect a freshman. The feeling that you have conquered everyone: from Vladi to the scathing commentators of The Flow. Do you encounter any negative reactions at all?

- I have no right to say that there is no hate at all. He is there. Someone, no, no, yes, write nasty things in the comments, call them ugly. On the same The Flow there are very cool memes about me, jokes. The commentators joke quite a lot. Perhaps this was not the case after the first video of "Ribka" - everyone was looking closely, trying to understand who I was and what I was about. And now they have already accepted me as a native and treat me like any other rapper - they do not regret it. Negative comments can be found under any clip.

- From whom came the most unexpected respect?

- From Basta. And from American Vogue. I don't know how they got to me. It's nonsense for me that American editors found a clip of a Ukrainian girl - there are not 15 million views, but God forbid, two. We got confused at Vogue, found a Russian-speaking journalist, we talked in a mixture of English and Russian. Sometimes the girl could not formulate a question, I answered: "Speak in English, I will try to understand you." So we talked. Of course, it's nice to get respect from Oksimiron. The evening before the release of the album ("Pushka" - Alena's debut album, released on April 8 - "RBC Style") I was all in trouble, getting ready for the release, and they start to send me a story where he says on battle: "Respect to Alena Alena ! " I thought, “Wow! This is the Universe talking to me! " It was fun.

- Aren't you afraid of the story of a fast takeoff? Do you understand how to justify a large credit of trust and work further in order not to lose the HYIP?

- It is wrong to strategically calculate how to swing people and keep one hundred percent of the public. You just need to create from the heart. If you think: "God forbid I stumble and everyone will turn away from me" or "Oh, what would you write to rock like that track over there?" - nothing will come of it. The result is opportunistic music, a secondary, a surrogate. The listener will feel it and leave. Yes, it's hard to keep vibe, mood, inspiration. But you can try different schemes, go in new ways, experiment. They will not understand - you can always return to the beaten track.

- You got several hits in a row. When you write a track, do you understand that it will shoot? Got a hit formula?

- Absolutely not. I have only one criterion: I want to repeat my own text, read it again or not? I write the verse, chorus, listen and go to bed. If in the morning I remember what I wrote, then the track has a place to be. If I don’t remember, it means that I didn’t express my thought that way. Not finalized. Also, I definitely give children to listen to new songs. They are the main measure of success. I have no calculation: one track will be banged, the second will be a pass. I invest in everything equally, each of them is good in its own way.

- How many tracks have you rejected this way?

- Oh, that's enough. I posted bits of them on Instagram. There was a track "Diki dancesi", "I am not bachu taking off", a track "Kazka", on which I even wanted to shoot a video, but my hands did not reach. I uploaded the track "Obitsyanka" into a demo on YouTube and didn't even listen to it, because it was an impulse. I wanted to raise a social topic - I raised it, spoke out, that's all. There are also a few tracks that were not included in "Pushka", but I keep an eye on them: if I change something, maybe I will release it in the second album.

- Despite the fact that there are more and more girls in rap, there is still a feeling of a certain niche in female rap. Why is there still so much attention paid to gender and "female rap" is considered something of a side, or what? And one more thing: you are put on a par with Masha Hima, Mozee Montana, but doesn't it seem that you are still a little from a different weight category, at least in terms of production?

- First, the main thing here is who reads what. Why is someone's music becoming niche? Not because a girl makes it, not because the girl has a certain voice, height or weight, but because her message and text are not close to everyone. Why everything turned out this way for me: I began to read about things that are close to many. At the same time, I don't consider my music to be superpunch. I am somewhat superficial. But the main thing is honest. And as for production … Listen, well, I buy beats from Ukrainian beatmakers, not American ones. It is available to everyone. Let them rummage on the Internet, search, wonder who wrote which bit to whom.

- You told how you called the Miss MC performer from Ternopil and criticized her for squeaking. First, how did she react? Secondly, do you have any taboos? You can't squeak. What else cannot be done, what to read about?

- She is a very adequate girl. Said: "Thanks for the opinion, but I read as I want." No, well, listen, if your voice is really annoying - how can you keep silent? It just hits the ears … And I like to give orders, to teach wits. About the taboo. I do not want and will not promote something prohibited. I read about it in due time, that's enough. The artist is followed and imitated by his example. A 17-year-old child has a mind, he filters what he hears. And if an 11-year-old listens to the tracks? He thinks you are the coolest. We must always remember this. And then, the most intimate can be veiled, any emotion can be conveyed metaphorically, allegorically.

- Some young rappers gravitate towards escapism - towards a kind of seclusion. They sit at home day and night, write music. Are you a loner in this regard or do you prefer to work in a team?

- If you just write something worthwhile at home, then in any way you get people, like-minded people, ready to work for an idea. We are used to labeling: “Oh, all nonsense! Millions have been invested in it! " Not really. Any work has a price. But sometimes people like your work so much that they are ready to work with you just like that, because they want to break into the industry. Until recently, there were no such people in my life: I paid for absolutely everything. Now they have appeared - and I am grateful to the Universe for having acquired a team, as an artist. The team is growing, I am happy to meet you. Russian performer GONE.Fludd also gradually put together a team. It's so cool! And if someone thinks that I row money with a shovel and pay every step - ok, guys, think further.

- A little about live. How does your performance look technically now: do you read with plus, play beats from a laptop, like Oxxxymiron did in due time, or all live? And to what level of live do you want to come? Is there any reference point among the performers?

- Live, that's why it's live to make money. I read under minus with quiet backings, Elina Varavina helps me as a back-MS. Music includes from laptop DJ Kolya Expert Makeev, makes live scratches. I don't think too much about how to move or what to do. I try to read and communicate with the public as efficiently as possible.

- There is a feeling that all more or less talented musicians in Ukraine are somehow taken under the wing of Ivan Dorn's Masterskaya. The feeling of a certain monopoly - how wrong is it?

- Masterskaya is a great platform for young performers. Vanya Dorn arranges auditions, selects, criticizes, gives instructions - there is no talk of any monopoly on artists. On the contrary, they lend a helping hand, show a wide audience that there is such and such a young talent. They do not have opportunistic music - everything is original, amateurish ("amateur" in Ukrainian - "RBC Style").

I didn’t come up with a formula for a hit. I make tracks according to the principle: I want to repeat my own text, read it again or not?

- You give interviews with equal zeal to music publications, Meduza and TV channels. Is the media image important to you?

- Of course. Over time, I got a team of managers who monitor the media and process requests. We cooperate with a large Ukrainian PR agency, they explain which publications it is better to go to - where is the audience. This is very important for me, because I have already stumbled a couple of times. She was so naive, she wanted to tell everyone about herself. Now I began to understand this science a little.

- Stumbled in what way?

- I will not point a finger, but some glossy publications are still looking for plus-size heroines. They try to hang on you, like on a Christmas tree, their clothes, shoes, ornaments. But I am who I am. I'm talking about sports. I put on a shiny dress once - well, not mine. I do not want to break myself to please some publications.

- I was sincerely surprised to see you at the Ukrainian Yuna Music Awards. It seemed as if Big Baby Tape came to the Muz TV award. You yourself did not have an internal dissonance?

- Absolutely not. It has already been hammered into their heads that TV is pop music and conjuncture, and rap is the street and amateurism. This is not true. From the fact that I came to the TV, I did not start singing with plywood, I did not become overgrown with dancers in gold dresses. If, in order to achieve the goal, it is necessary to perform at Yuna, at the Voice of the Country project, I will go and do it. Just to bring niche music to TV. And say, “Hey! Look, music can be different! " Why not? I won't bend over to the TV producers. I perform what I want and read what I want.

- About the wave of bans on rap concerts that swept across Russia in winter. What do you think, is it permissible to censor rap, or is only self-censorship necessary, which you mentioned earlier? That is, set the limit to 18+ and read what you want.

- I think that bans are the responsibility of the artists. There is a law. The performer must not violate it. However, like the government.

- In a conversation with Meduza, you admitted: “Do you even understand what it is like to rap in public? For me, it's like stripping naked. I'm not ready yet. Throughout my career, I've done rap five times - and each time I forgot the words. " First, has this situation changed? Secondly, can you remember how you felt before your first performance?

- Now I'm not afraid of anything. Give me just a T-shirt (microphone. - RBC Style) - I'll go out and read it beautifully. The first performance was at the opening of the Urban Space 500 in Kiev. I was insanely nervous, my mouth was dry with excitement, my heart literally jumped out of my chest, there was not enough air, my knees were trembling, the microphone was shaking. But from time to time this feeling dulled. I realized that people do not come to judge me, but to rejoice for me. Now give me any audience that doesn't even like rap - I'll go out and do it. All.

- Can you remember the strangest or funniest incident of those when you were recognized?

- I went to Lviv. I was invited to just hang out, take a walk - not as an artist. No posters, nothing. People knew me visually - outwardly they remembered me, but for some reason the pseudonym did not. Passers-by poked their fingers, said “Oh! You, Fish-fish. Go here!" I laughed a lot. It was nice.

- Tell us a little about the clips. In particular, I am interested in two. Absolutely surreal "Ribki 2", where you give an interview to the program "Childish Hour" (analogue of "Good night, kids!" - "RBK Style"). The second is a wildly beautiful and authentic video "Padlo" with Alina Pash. Who took them off?

- "Childish Hour" was filmed by Israeli director Yan Boltov. He also shot Vidchiniai. We reached out to him through friends of friends, showed my work and asked: "Do you want to break in?" He replied: "Of course!" And he came up with such an arthouse, inspired by post-Soviet television. Ian was especially impressed by Did Panas - there was such a presenter in Ukraine. The funny thing is that they didn't show me the questions of The Childish Hour until the start of filming. Everything that happens in the frame was a surprise for me. And "Padlo" was shot by Alina Pasch's young man, Frenchman Nathan Daisy, also a musician. He came to Alina's parents in Western Ukraine and was so surprised at our Easter eggs that he came up with a whole fantastic plot around them and offered us.

- Finally, a few words about style. Is it important for a rapper and what brands do you prefer?

- It is important in the sense that everything should look harmonious. The appearance should not hurt the viewer's eyes. But I'm not really worried about clothes. Favorite brands are from second hand. I love to dig there, find rare H&M, Next, some cool jeans.

- So you don't suffer from the famous rapper logomania?

- What's the point? I don't have money for the latest adidas sneaker, let's say. I can buy Chinese, but what's the catch? Pretending to be rich is not my move. And also, if you look at it from an environmental point of view, people throw away a bunch of clothes every day. Why? The thing can be worn for a long time until it is completely demolished.>
