Rushmore Academy

The protagonist of Rushmore Academy is Max Fischer, a student of a prestigious men's closed school, the weakest student in the stream, a native of a working-class family, hovering in the clouds and having a dozen hobbies: he practices fencing, presides over the club of American racers, puts on plays that he himself writes on a typewriter with a gold dedication “Bravo, Max! Love, mom”, inherited from his deceased mother. The stylistically verified appearance of the hero is an ideal reflection of his character. He tries to look older and more serious than his classmates, and his wardrobe is a real encyclopedia of preppy style. Max wears chinos, derbies, horn-rimmed glasses, English satchels, ties, club jackets with patches and monograms. We also see him in a velvet suit of a complex emerald shade: Wes Anderson loves similar ones and often dresses up his heroes in them.

An important detail in the film is the red beret, which simultaneously becomes a symbol of sophistication and rebelliousness. The revolutionary Che Guevara and the French bohemian intelligentsia of the 1960s immediately come to mind. Max, by the way, from time to time inserts various French words into speech.

The images from the film fit well into the framework of gender ambivalence. The same velvet suits of Max with enviable consistency appear in the women's collections of Chloe, Anna Sui and Nina Ricci.

"Water life"

In a sense, Aquatic Life is a loose interpretation of Moby Dick. The main character, Steve Zissu, played by Bill Murray, intends to take revenge on the jaguar shark and devotes his life to this, gathering a team of enthusiasts.

The ribbed red knit hat is the most recognizable detail from the movie. The French oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, from whom Steve Zissou was written off, went to the same. It is not striking at first glance, but the beanies worn by all team members are created in different designs: the main character periodically appears in a hat with a pompom, Owen Wilson's character Ned has a traffic light patch, and one of Anderson's favorite actors - Varis Ahluvalia - wears a red turban. To get the most out of the look, wear a red hat with things in blue and turquoise shades: light denim shirts, T-shirts or bombers.

Another noteworthy item is the adidas sneakers. They were created specifically for the film, but in 2017 the brand released a replica of Steve Zissou's shoes (100 pairs were created).

"The Tenenbaum Family"

As Wes Anderson emphasized in an interview, the images from The Tenenbaum Family were inspired by The French Courier, Andy Warhol's Factory, Robert Frank's street photography, and illustrations from the New Yorker magazine. For her work on the film, costume designer Karen Patch took the top prize from the Artists Guild. In addition, the story of a family reunion, each of whose members has serious emotional problems, has haunted many designers for many years: new quotes appear every season, and Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele never gets tired of returning to recognizable images from time to time. time. Sports headbands paired with oversized sunglasses, oversized coats in warm shades, distinctive hairstyles, brogues and derbies are all clear references to the Tenenbaum Family.

The image of Margot, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, is one of the most striking not only in Anderson's filmography, but also in the history of cinema. The adopted daughter of Etheline and Royal Tenebaum, a talented playwright and the most secretive of all members of this difficult family. Margot wears a long Fendi mink coat along with knitted pink gloves, loafers and a Hermès bag. A miniature hair clip holds a strand of hair in her perfect bob, and thickly painted eyes lend even more alienation to the look. Tragically in love with her, her half-brother Richie combines woolen suits and sand-colored coats with FiIla wristbands and a headband (a sad reminder of his failed career as a brilliant tennis player). Margot also knows a lot about sports style and wears a Lacoste polo dress (by the way, also a tennis one). You don't even have to try to find the same:costume designer Karen Patch sewed the dresses specially for the film, in agreement with Lacoste.

Ben Stiller's Chas Tenenbaum is a costume devotee. At the beginning of the film, we see him as a child, dressed in a business jacket, trousers and shoes. The adult version of Chas chooses bright blue sneakers and a red Adidas Originals tracksuit, and at the same time dresses in the same sons: it's easier to get together during a fire drill, which, in his opinion, may one day be quite real. Etheline Tenenbaum's beloved Henry Sherman, played by Danny Glover, wears a bow tie throughout the film and does not look ridiculous or pretentious. The secret is plaid shirts and a textured cardigan (or a brightly colored double-breasted jacket). It is worth taking note of the techniques used by Margot's husband, psychologist Reilly St. Clair (Bill Murray). A corduroy blazer and a slim turtleneck in a memorable shade are a cool retro look for every day.

The picture even found a place for the Western style, which is still popular in both men's and women's fashion. Fringed jackets, cowboy hats, shirts with distinctive décor and piping, bright prints - all this wears Eli Cash (Owen Wilson), who dreams of being part of the Tenenbaum family. The Elvis Presley-era Las Vegas and the movie Midnight Cowboy became the landmarks for his slightly kitschy look.

“Train to Darjeeling. Desperate Travelers"

The Train to Darjeeling is another reunion story. The Whitmann brothers, who have not spoken to each other for a year since their father's death, embark on a spiritual journey through India, traveling on an old-fashioned train and carrying a pile of suitcases with the JWL monogram. The metaphor is quite obvious: only after settling all conflicts and seeing their mother, the brothers decide to throw their luggage.

In the film, things become the reason for constant conflicts between the characters and once again emphasize the model characteristic of Anderson's films: children often behave like adults, and adults - like children. Played by Adrian Brody, Peter wears glasses with diopters (although his eyesight is in perfect order) that belonged to his deceased father, only to once again demonstrate to the brothers that he was the favorite. The glasses were created by the Rodenstock brand in the 1970s, and today they can only be bought on eBay.

Wardrobe items also become symbolic gestures of reconciliation: closer to the finale, Francis (Owen Willson) gives Peter a father's belt, and it seems that all conflicts are really settled.

The style of the three Whitmann brothers contrasts with the flavor of India. They wear bright garlands of flowers over gray suits, and in the scene when the heroes are once again late for the train, Francis is wearing a formal boot on one leg, and an oriental shoe bought at the local market on the other.

The female audience should take a closer look at the things of Patricia - the elusive mother of the Whitmans performed by Angelica Houston, who went to a high-mountain monastery. Her snow-white shirt dress, tied with a wide leather belt, stole, brown boots and a large cross look like a look from the Loewe show.

"Fantastic Mr. Fox"

Commercially, Anderson's first animated film was not the most successful, but received a fair share of fame and was even nominated for an Oscar. This is not surprising: the aesthetics, as always, are verified to the smallest detail.

It seems that Mr. Fox's fashion habits are an exact reflection of Wes Anderson's style. There are corduroy suits in warm reddish-ocher shades, knitted polos, double-breasted jackets, and cropped trousers. The main character, whose voice, by the way, belongs to George Clooney, dresses with a needle, even when he goes to rob the farms of Boggis, Bunce and Bean. Only a tie and an office shirt with short sleeves bring some dissonance to his impeccable image. Mr. Fox is forced to change into this uniform, leaving happy days in the past, and, as we will soon learn, he is not very happy with his new, measured life.

Mrs Fox, voiced by Meryl Streep, appears in two characters: at the beginning of the film, this is a clear reflection of boho-chic trends - a loose linen shirt, breeches and a braided headband (this was worn by many hippies). Becoming a wife and a mother, she chooses a close-fitting dress with a stand-up collar on a button, decorated with apples, and also wears a small cameo with a fox profile.

Of course, the cartoon could not do without Bill Murray, who gave his voice to the most stylish character - Mr. Badger. The head of the real estate agency wears a gray pin-striped double-breasted jacket, from under which the shirt protrudes a perfect couple of centimeters. From accessories, he chooses a scarf in his breast pocket and a bright tie.

An equally interesting and controversial character is the villain of the Rats (voiced by Willem Dafoe) who lives on Franklin Bean's farm. His black cigarette jeans, a wide red stripe sweater with a Bean Security patch and an electronic watch are all for a simple yet trendy everyday look.

There is a detail in the cartoon that deserves special attention: a bandit hat with slits for the eyes and mouth, reminiscent of the fashionable balaclavas that were at the shows of Calvin Klein, Chanel, Marni, Gucci and many other brands. Rumor has it that this will be the most requested accessory next winter.

"Kingdom of the Full Moon"

Despite the fact that the action in "Kingdom of the Full Moon" takes place in 1965 and the main characters of the picture are children, I want to borrow a lot of items from their wardrobe. For example, the small daisies that Suzie weaves into her hair during her short honeymoon at the cove fit well into the trend for hairpins and hair jewelry, and the bug earrings Sam made for her appear in many collections from season to season. Here you can also add large cuffs and Peter Pan collars: similar details were present at the 2017/18 autumn-winter shows, and this year they strengthened their positions.

Boy Scout uniforms can also become a fashionable landmark: take a closer look at Bermuda, badges and patches, trekking boots, oversized rucksacks. The main thing is to wear it all separately and remember the sense of proportion.

Well, and the image of the narrator, played by Bob Ballaban, - duffle coats, lace-up boots and all the same beanie in bright colors - an ideal set not only for autumn, but also for rainy summer days.

As in all of Anderson's films, Moonrise Kingdom is full of simple, understandable and highly symbolic elements. For example, the orphan Sam wears her mother's brooch along with numerous patches, and Suzie gets married in a crimson beret, which, like Françoise Hardy's record, underlines her passion for France.

"Hotel" Grand Budapest"

“The Grand Budapest Hotel received four Oscars at once: for the best costumes, make-up, soundtrack and work of a production designer. The picture in the film is not just emasculated - it is a separate universe, with its own orders, foundations and even brands: remember the perfume L'air de Panache, which Monsieur Gustave loved so much, or the Mendl's confectionery.

The style of the heroes is thought out no less carefully. Consider the black leather cloak of the assassin Jopling, played by Willem Dafoe. We have seen similar models for more than one season in both men's and women's collections. The bohemian outfits of the wealthy Madame M. (Tilda Swinton) also perfectly intersect with modern fashion trends. Heavy textured velvet, unusual color combinations, catchy jewelry and other components of her image can be easily imagined today.

Pay attention to the colors that Wes Anderson uses so skillfully: instead of yellow, he has mustard or ocher, instead of pink - pastel shades, instead of green - lime.
