She has several professions: actress, director, screenwriter, producer, model, UN Goodwill Ambassador. Jolie has won two Oscars, three Golden Globes and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. But we love her not only for that. Here are some more reasons for everyone's respect.
Promotes feminist ideas

“Equality is not about being the same, but about the freedom to make your own choices and live life to the fullest - not at the expense of men, but by their side,” says Jolie, who had an active lifestyle long before feminism became Hollywood mainstream.
Jolie has always been a black sheep even in the motley world of show business, but today it is becoming obvious: what many took for shocking was just a desire to live life to the fullest and be herself. Angelina did not hide her bisexuality and, in general, her love for sex. Even before the baby boom in the film industry, she adopted a boy from Cambodia, whom she named Maddox. Soon, Jolie divorced her second husband, Billy Bob Thornton, and officially became a single mother.
She was not afraid to plunge headlong into humanitarian work, although she was long and stubbornly accused of self-promotion. I decided to sit in the director's chair (and again received a flurry of criticism for getting into something else). For the past couple of decades, Jolie has been broadcasting one simple idea with all her actions: perhaps public opinion is not worth giving up on their aspirations and new ideas.
Does charity work

Since 2001, Angelina Jolie has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. We are used to seeing her pictures from summits and conferences, from trips to third world countries, where Jolie lives with refugees: she also eats, sleeps and works. But the actress not only draws the attention of the authorities and the public to serious problems, but also invests huge sums in their solution.
In 2003, together with Brad Pitt, she founded a charitable foundation and annually donates millions of dollars for a variety of needs: to refugee camps around the world, to create medical centers, hospitals and schools, preserve the environment and develop communities in poor countries, to help orphans and children suffering from serious illnesses to fight for women's rights and to develop drugs to fight cancer. In English, this is called to practice what you preach - "to do what you preach to others."
In 2014, Jolie received a special Oscar - the Gene Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
Taking care of health (not only his own)
The topic of oncology is very personal for the actress: her mother, Jolie Marcheline, survived breast cancer, but died at the age of 57 from ovarian cancer. Angelina's grandmother and aunt also died after a long battle with cancer. Jolie decided to take health into her own hands and did a genetic test to find out if she is a carrier of dangerous genes. It turned out that yes. According to doctors, the risk of developing breast cancer in her was 87%, and ovarian cancer - 50%. The actress decided to have a mastectomy - to remove both breasts - and thereby reduce the risk of one type of oncology to zero. And two years later, she removed the ovaries.
Importantly, Jolie wrote a frank and meaningful essay about her experience, in which she explained why she made this decision and talked about the importance of timely prevention. In fact, Angelina Jolie, through her act, has ensured the rapid growth of the entire genetic screening industry and helped millions of women learn more about their health.
Remains sincere

No one expected that Jolie would openly discuss her divorce from Brad Pitt with journalists. But in a series of interviews timed to coincide with the release of the new "Maleficent" in the fall of 2019, the star did not ignore the sensitive topic. Instead of blaming and lamenting, the actress honestly spoke about her feelings, the pain she experienced and the things that helped her to find herself again: “I hid my wild side, but now I want to reveal it again. I want to be free."
In an interview with French edition Madame Figaro, the actress admitted that in recent years she felt lost: “I think it started at the end of the relationship with Brad and continued after the breakup. It was difficult, I did not recognize myself. It seemed to me that I almost disappeared, became small and invisible even for myself. " Jolie admitted that the children helped her to return to normal and work on new projects - "Maleficent" and "Eternals" based on Marvel comics. For the last film, the actress had to train a lot, and this was a great escape from negative thoughts.
Knows how to choose roles

The name Jolie is constantly heard in connection with her family life and social work. For all this, one can forget that Angelina Jolie was and remains a talented actress who knows how to choose worthy projects. She unleashed her dramatic potential back in the 1990s and in 2000 won an Oscar for her supporting role, playing a sociopath in the drama, Girl, Interrupted.
Zero passed for the actress under the sign of action-packed blockbusters - "Lara Croft", "Salt", "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." And then she switched to fairy tales - no less exciting, but invariably kind. Jolie convincingly voiced the Tigress in three cartoons about "Kung Fu Panda", signed a contract for several films with Marvel. Recently she took up the voice acting of another cartoon - "Ivan, the one and only". And she returned to the role of an extraordinary, but kind and sincere sorceress Maleficent. The producers admit that without Jolie they did not want to shoot a film about the famous Disney witch at all and hoped that the beauty of the actress would make the heroine more attractive (and commercially profitable). But Angelina demanded to achieve a portrait resemblance to a cartoon villain - she wanted to look truly frightening and unapproachable. Because I knewthat over time, viewers will still love her.
