Exactly 50 years ago, a revolution took place in the watchmaking world: in 1969, Zenith launched the first fully integrated automatic chronograph movement, which could detect intervals of up to a tenth of a second. The caliber received the big name El Primero (“first” in Esperanto). Almost half a century later, he had an heir.
The ultra-modern serial chronograph movement El Primero 21 is able to divide a second into hundredths - these moments are measured by the central dynamic hand, which makes a full revolution around the dial in one second. A separate wheel gear with a barrel and escapement is responsible for the chronograph operation - the oscillation frequency of the balance wheel is 360 thousand vph (which corresponds to 50 Hz). The high-frequency caliber is enclosed in the Defy case, which has already become a recognizable symbol of Zenith of the XXI century.
The Defy El Primero 21 Russia Edition watch, made exclusively for the Russian market, has a 44-mm case made of black ceramic, with satin-brushed elements combined with matte and polished ones. The architectural skeletonized dial, which traditionally has a gray-silver color, is painted black in the Russian version. All the brighter against this black background are visible red accents that emphasize the architectural volume of Defy El Primero and at the same time give the watch that very Russian sound. The outline of the 30-minute counter is outlined in red, the markings of hundredths along the outer edge of the dial are highlighted, the crown has also received a colored bezel. In addition to a black or red rubber bracelet, a black alligator belt is also available, lined with bright red rubber and red quilting.
