The Scheufele family of jewelery and watchmaking is the oldest partner in the film industry. Chopard has been working with the Cannes Film Festival for 21 years and is responsible for the production of the main prize every year. In 2019, the brand's workshops will make not only the Palme d'Or, but all the other awards of the festival, including the Palm Branch mini-version for the best short film. Since 2001, the brand has been presenting its own Trophée Chopard to two aspiring actors and, of course, showcasing special pieces from the Red Carpet Collection. The number of items in the collection corresponds to the ordinal number of the festival.

About the 2019 Red Carpet Meeting
This year in Cannes we are presenting 72 jewels, as always dedicated to the most beautiful actresses in the world. These jewelry are united by the theme of love, therefore, for example, heart-cut tanzanites are used in a magnificent necklace (these stones with a total weight of more than 25 carats are classified as fair trade, we do not know the mine where they were mined, but we know the country of origin). New materials have been used in the Red Carpet pieces, including tinted titanium, which creates the feeling of a complete fusion of the setting and colored stones. In a ring shaped like an orchid flower, a thin layer of white ceramic is applied to the base of titanium petals.

About ethically clean stones and diamonds
Now that we have completely switched to Fairmined gold, we need to do the same with precious stones. My mission is to make the supply chain completely transparent, from A to Z. It is very difficult to achieve this goal: dozens of types of colored stones are known and they are mined all over the world. So our journey to sustainable luxury takes not just time, but travel across the planet. I can say that we do not use Burmese rubies due to the escalation of religious conflict and diamonds that do not correspond to the Kimberley Process. As part of an active partnership with Gemfields, we track shipments of emeralds from Zambia (where there is a certified Kagem mine), tanzanites, amethysts, rubies. Every year we select one of the stones for our special Green Carpet decoration. Last year, Julianne Moore wore a stunning 34-carat Paraiba tourmaline necklace. From the Mavuko mine in Mozambique to our high jewelery atelier in Geneva, every stage of his move met the criteria for the Green Carpet Challenge. We do not yet know which stone we will choose this year for our "green" collection - large tanzanite, ruby or amethyst.

Responsibility in the luxury industry
Transparency and accountability are becoming more and more important in any business. The consumer of all luxury goods wants to know what materials they are made from, and the company's commitment to responsible mining and sustainable production is important to them. This fully applies to watches and jewelry. For almost a year now, at Chopard, we have been using only Fairmined gold, gold from certified mines, and we know the supply chain intimately. Today there are 27 such mines, mainly in Peru and Colombia. These are primarily small artisanal mines-artels owned by families or communes. Compliance with ethical, social and environmental standards required to obtain Fairmined certification,is established by the international independent non-governmental organization Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) - we have been cooperating with them since 2013. It is important that this status is not assigned once and for all - ARM auditors come with audits every year. It is important for us not only to preserve the nature of those places (in certified mines, for example, it is forbidden to use mercury to extract precious metals from rocks), but also to help people get a stable salary and social guarantees. The certification process is very long: many mines belong to the state and we have to negotiate at the highest level. It is pleasant that our initiative is also supported by some banks where we traditionally bought gold bars, for example, UBS Bank.
