Experts predicted the closure of almost half of clothing stores in Moscow after quarantine
After the lifting of quarantine measures in Moscow, up to 50% of clothing, footwear and accessories stores may close. Kommersant writes about this with reference to forecasts of the analytical and consulting agency Fashion Consulting Group. According to the newspaper, large chains, including Zara, Pull & Bear and Tvoe, have already started to optimize outlets in the shopping centers of the capital. Representatives of the company Inditex, which owns Zara and Pull & Bear, declined to comment, H&M insisted that all the brand's stores would be opened after the quarantine, and Tvoe reported that they had no plan to close a certain number of outlets - all decisions were made on based on the analysis of the financial results of a specific point and the concessions that the owners of the premises are ready to make.
At the same time, the head of Fashion Consulting Group, Anna Lebsak-Kleimans, believes that against the background of the closure of offline stores, an increase in online sales may occur. “We expect online sales to more than double. If in 2019 the share of online trade in the fashion market was only about 12%, now a third of sales of the total market volume will come from distance selling, "Lebsak-Kleimans commented.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has released a video for the exhibition about fashion and time
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has shown a 12-minute video dedicated to the exhibition "About Time: Fashion and Duration" ("Fashion and Time"). The museum planned to open it on May 7, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it postponed the opening until October 29. The Costume Institute Ball, which traditionally preceded the exhibition, was canceled this year. It was held online by social media users.
The video shows in a chaotic manner the outfits by Charles James, Gabrielle Chanel, Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent and other designers, created from 1870 to the present day. The exhibits are compared with each other according to various criteria - be it the volume of sleeves, intricate draperies or floral inserts. Perhaps they will be presented in the same pairs at the exhibition itself. The video is accompanied by quotes from the novel Orlando by Virginia Woolf: the film, based on the work, has become as important a source of inspiration for curators as the 150th anniversary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Dolce & Gabbana launches online workshop to fight coronavirus
The brand has organized a series of master classes under the general name #DGFattoInCasa. Since May 6, employees and friends of the brand virtually invite everyone to their home, show their skills, and also share experiences and startups that can be launched in self-isolation. At the center of the online workshop is the idea of a traditional casa bottega workshop home where manual labor flourishes. Italian handicrafts became the main theme of the fall-winter 2020/21 fashion shows for men and women: models demonstrated the latest Dolce & Gabbana products, accompanied by thematic videos from the workshops.
The project also aims to raise funds in support of the Amore for scientific research campaign for the Humanitas University Foundation. The organization's research is aimed at elucidating the mechanisms of the immune system's response to the coronavirus and is intended to lay the foundation for the development of diagnostic and therapeutic solutions to combat it.
“At the moment, we know very little about how our immune system responds to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes COVID-19,” explains Alberto Mantovani, President of the Research Foundation and Professor Emeritus at Humanitas University. - For example, we do not know whether our first line of defense (innate immunity, which detects and destroys up to 90% of viruses and bacteria that enter the body) is effective, whether it can be activated when infected with coronavirus. Thanks to the support of Dolce & Gabbana, the university will continue to study innate immune cells and individual molecules of it, which are the precursors of antibodies. The study of these processes will help the development of diagnostics, biomarkers of the severity of the disease, therapeutic measures that will help solve a global problem."
