The outbreak of the coronavirus took the participants of fashion weeks by surprise: after learning that the epidemic had spread across Europe, Giorgio Armani decided to hold the show behind closed doors, and Dries van Noten did not make adjustments to the show, but instructed to distribute disposable medical masks to his guests.
For other designers, the protective element has become fertile ground for experimentation: for example, Marine Serre adorned it with a signature crescent pattern and a houndstooth print and complemented the runway looks with an accessory. And on the Luisa Via Roma website, with the onset of the epidemic, all the Fendi branded masks that have long appeared in the collection of the fashion house have scattered (they are popular with buyers from Asia, who with their help escape from smog). This is despite the relatively high cost of $ 190 and the fact that such masks do not guarantee one hundred percent and long-term protection against infections.
Perhaps the reason for the accessory's sold-out is that it lends an enigmatic drama to the look, and also attracts street-style photographers like a magnet. We found proof of this at the Balmain show, where one of the guests organically entered a medical mask into a black total bow with a Dries Van Noten bag (and as a reward for her efforts she received several publications of her photograph in the media), and then at the Chanel show, where this item has appeared at least twice. Blogger Nicole Raidman wore a mask with the recognizable logo of the French brand, and producer Yana Rudkovskaya wore cameos made of polymer clay. They are used in the design of some Chanel jewelry, as well as in gift wrapping.
“I was wearing a Japanese mask (the manufacturer writes that it protects against various viruses), when they produced it, apparently, they did not yet know about the existence of a“coronavirus”in the future, but nevertheless, - explains Yana Rudkovskaya on her Instagram page … - Wearing or not wearing a mask is everyone's business! My black mask looked terrifying with my spring look, and I stuck on 3 Chanel paper cameos (who knows, he will understand) in 30 seconds to somehow refine it before going to the show! Besides the fact that I collected all the photographers and enthusiastic praises from a couple of hundred foreign fashion guests of the show, I still secured myself and my health, which, as you know, cannot be bought for any money."
