Taiki Waititi's films can be recognized by their peculiar sense of humor, which seems appropriate even in those moments in which it is not accepted to joke. In an interview with, the director of the films “Jojo Rabbit” and “Thor: Rangarek” said that for him comedy is the strongest weapon against fanaticism and dictatorship: “Eighty years ago, in the film“The Great Dictator,”Chaplin showed us what effect it has a comedic statement on the most complex topic of fascism. I would even say that there is a whole tradition of combating hatred and intolerance with the help of humor. If it seems to someone that it is not time to joke about fascism and genocide, I will disagree. And I am in a good company of dissent - at least here I and Chaplin."
The Oscar winner's sense of humor was inherited. His father is a Maori, a representative of the indigenous people of New Zealand, who for many years existed under the yoke of British colonialists. His mother is Jewish with Russian roots, whose ancestors managed to escape in the early 1900s. “Both of my parents represent peoples who had to survive, to prove their right to equality, had to learn to laugh in the face of problems and danger. It was impossible to survive without a sense of humor in the conditions in which Jews and Maori survived."
Taiki Waititi's humor manifests itself not only in his works, but also in everyday life: you can hardly find photographs where he does not smile, grimace and play with awards (for example, at the Oscar ceremony, he hid his cherished statuette under an armchair). It is just as difficult to see the director in minimalistic and strict clothes: he goes to the set with pineapples, and on the red carpet - in a lavender-colored suit.
“I don’t wear anything conservative,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. - In Hollywood in general, and in studios in particular, it's a very boring style. Very sterile. This style is called "you could wear a pager on your belt". An ugly shirt tucked into ugly trousers serves a purpose in a way, but you can just as well put on jeans and a T-shirt to work. For me, this does not mean dressing well."
We list what "good" is, according to Taiki Waititi.

With pineapples, bananas, palms, crabs and even imitation of a snake's tail, the director's collection of shirts goes to infinity. He began to wear them along with dress pants, black jeans and short shorts long before such images appeared on the world catwalks - for example, at Valentino, Dries Van Noten and Versace shows. Taiki Waititi's shirts looked especially organic at the presentation of Jojo Rabbit in the Hawaiian Islands, where they were stylized with a traditional floral necklace by local residents. An example - and in this case not a bad one - became contagious: Jeff Goldblum and Reese Darby wore short-sleeved shirts. “Annual Meeting of Taicholics Anonymous.
