Today you won't surprise anyone with a good Chinese smartphone. For the last three years, sitting down to write a review for the next flagship from the Middle Kingdom, you have experienced the greatest problems with joining. Saying again that “Made in China” is no longer synonymous with poor quality? Once again, retell the path of Chinese companies that have managed in such a short time to learn how to make truly amazing devices at half the price of famous flagships?
Nevertheless, both are true. Chinese smartphones are not preparing to enter the major league, they are already there, and more and more people understand this every month. Xiaomi Mi6 - the new flagship of "the most beloved company by geeks" is another proof of this.
You can't tell from the photos, but Mi6 is one of the most beautiful smartphones of our time. The similarity to the iPhone, which is striking in the pictures, is not felt so much in reality. The attention to detail is to blame: last year I praised the Mi5 for its design, but this year the Chinese have taken it even further. The build quality and workmanship are impressive: the smartphone feels very solid, okay, and tightly knit. The flimsy aluminum frame of last year's model, which could have been damaged with a fingernail with enough force, went to junk. Instead - polished steel, shining in the sun even in black. The back is still glass, still easily soiled and prone to scratches, but it doesn't seem fragile at all. Perhaps this is an illusion due to increased weight. If so, then I am glad to be deceived: a feelingthat you are holding an expensive thing in your hands arises immediately, as soon as you get the Mi6 out of the box, it won't let go even after a couple of weeks.
Of course, Xiaomi did not quite reach the level of the stunning Galaxy S8: the bezels on the top and bottom convey hello to 2015, the aspect ratio is still 16: 9, and the buttons are somewhat loose, but the overall impression, both visual and tactile, is one of the strongest sides Mi6.
The display also does not fail. Now a good screen can be found even in state employees for 7 thousand rubles, not to mention the flagships, but the Mi6 matrix also deserves its portion of praises. I especially liked the color rendering: deep black, natural white, very high maximum brightness and very low - minimum. By its nature, the screen here is most reminiscent of the one installed in the iPhone 7 - and in fact there is the best IPS-matrix for today. Oh yes, there are no black stripes around the screen that annoyed many owners of previous Xiaomi flagships.
Mi6 is the flagship of Xiaomi, and therefore the "hardware" is the best here. Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (it, for example, works in the American version of the Galaxy S8) is the best that is now in the Android world, and it is inferior only to the A10 Fusion in the same iPhone 7 Plus. Be that as it may, Mi6 works very quickly: smooth animations, instant page loads in the browser, 60 frames in all existing 3D games. That's a level close to the Google Pixel - and that's a big compliment. The Chinese did not mind RAM - the Mi6 has six gigabytes of it at once. Overkill? If so, it will not be worse.
The dual camera is the main trend in mobile photography, and Xiaomi did not miss this moment. The Mi6 has two modules, both 12 megapixels, and just like the iPhone 7 Plus, with different focal lengths. Hence the "optical" zoom function and portrait mode. In Mi5 the camera was at most “very good”, and in Mi6 the situation has not changed. The smartphone shoots well - but no more. Sometimes sharpness drops at the edges of the pictures, at night the noise reduction works too actively, and in portrait mode the bokeh effect almost always spreads to the hair and edges of clothes. You will hardly be disappointed with the camera of the "six", but, unfortunately, it cannot be called its flagship.
Mi6 works on the seventh Android, from which, traditionally for Xiaomi, only horns and legs remained. The MIUI 8 shell is not for everybody, and you can find different reviews about it. Personally, I rather like it (the main thing is to choose the most neutral theme), but problems with it sometimes happen. My colleague, for example, complained about regular departures and reboots - but this cup happily passed me. It's only a shame that having thoroughly "shoveled" Android, Xiaomi programmers forgot about several useful functions of the system. So, for example, here you cannot quickly switch to the previous application by double-clicking on the multitasking button.

However, this is not the main problem with Mi6. For some far-fetched reason, Xiaomi decided to ditch the headphone jack. Far-fetched - because Apple at least tried to explain this step: they say, in the place of the connector, we will place a unique Taptic Engine vibration motor and make the iPhone 7 waterproof. The Mi6 has a completely normal vibration (albeit quite pleasant) and it cannot be dipped in water - only splash protection is declared. So it turns out that buyers will be forced to constantly carry a complete adapter with them, receiving nothing in return. Well, at least the sound is good - juicy and clean.
I was also pleased with the battery life: Mi6 easily survives until late evening even in the "maniac" mode - almost incessant listening to music and constant updates to the feed on social networks.
The best part is that such pleasures cost only 30 thousand rubles. And this is with an official guarantee, and not on the “gray market” (there, however, a smartphone can be bought even cheaper).
The main competitor of the Xiaomi Mi6 is the beautiful Huawei Honor 9. On the side of the latter, there are more successful cameras and an interesting glare coating of the body, while Mi6 wins in speed, build quality and design.
This may not be the best smartphone for today and no "iPhone killer", but it is definitely the most successful option to finally get to know Chinese smartphones and understand that they are by and large in no way inferior to the eminent flagships.>
