The stone weighing 28.86 carats has the highest gemological characteristics - color D, clarity VVS1, type IIa. Therefore, it is not surprising that for the lot, put up for auction Christie's Jewels Online, a struggle immediately unfolded - more than 30 buyers from all over the world applied for the role of the new owner. The diamond ring broke the $ 2 million mark, and its final value of $ 2,115,000 made it the most expensive piece of jewelry sold in an online auction.
“The sale of this amazing stone set a record for the cost of a jewelry item in an online auction,” said Raul Kadakia, international head of Christie's jewelry department. "It also demonstrated greater customer confidence in Christie's digital capabilities and a robust online sales platform."
According to the calculations of the auction house, the number of daily visits to the online jewelry trading page in June 2020 increased by 70% compared to June 2019.
