With collections created specifically for a particular country, wise jewelry houses try not to frequent. Versions designed for a specific market or retailer are more likely to release young brands that need to be liked and attract a customer. That is why the presentation by a large jewelry house of a collection created especially for Russia is a special case. This is a sign of attention and confidence in the market. And this confidence is more than justified. Russian clients love and appreciate high jewelry art of Van Cleef & Arpels. The credit of the brand is so high that there are those who purchase jewelry from a sketch, and the variety of tastes could be appreciated in 2012 at the grandiose retrospective exhibition of Van Cleef & Arpelsat the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris - the number of tablets "From a private collection, Russia" evoked almost patriotic feelings.

The new Contes d'Hiver is not the first collection created especially for Russia. At the end of 2013, also for the Christmas and New Year season, 29 haute joaillerie decorations arrived in Moscow, inspired by five great ballets - Swan Lake, La Bayadere, Nutcracker, Golden Fish and The Rite of Spring. The main part in each was danced by a branded brooch-ballerina. The first of these Van Cleef & Arpels created in the 1940s, the author of their design was Maurice Duvalais, and the brothers John and Robert Rübel, the jewelers who worked with Van Cleef & Arpels from the 1920s, first in Paris, and then in New York.

The new Contes d'Hiver also did not do without brooches. This time, the head of the precious parade, the theme of which is formulated as a "winter fairy tale", Fée de l'Hiver - a brooch-fairy, another traditional heroine of Van Cleef & Arpels… The graceful fairy is made of white gold and colorless diamonds. White generally dominates the collection, they bloomed the precious winter only with sparkling fire white opals and blue sapphires. The diamonds that prevail here are selected with all gemological rigor - the central stones of the jewelry are all as in the choice of color D (the highest color characteristic for non-colored diamonds), the purity is only Fl (Flawless, "flawless") or IF (Internally Flawless, "internally flawless "). The combination of different cuts - "baguette", "pear", "marquise", "rose", "classic diamond" - enhances the brilliance and play of stones.

Among the 20 jewelry, the most branded two-finger rings (in the house they are called Between the Finger Rings). One with a snowflake-styled edelweiss flower and a diamond core of color D, IF clarity and weighing 3.63 carats, two more with diamond butterflies, one with hellebore, one with couture bows and, perhaps, the most spectacular Boule de neige from white gold with diamonds and a white opal bead weighing over 13 carats. A bead (this form, by the way, is rarely used for cutting large opals) is effectively played with a plot: it seems to be not fixed, but entangled in a flower of gold and diamonds.

True, the title of the most spectacular can be challenged by the Nœud Chrysanthème two-finger ring. It is at least the brightest in the collection. An extremely exotic chrysanthemum, crafted by Van Cleef & Arpels jewelery, is made of white gold, encrusted with diamonds and sapphires, and the center of the flower is a 2.12 carat pear-cut Zambian emerald.

A rare case, but the main role in Contes d'Hiver is given to rings, which does not detract from the merits of other pieces of the collection - the Flocons Précieux open necklace with an ingenious spring system that allows it to fit perfectly around the neck, or the open bracelet of the same name with a shooting star motif. Rubans de Glace brooches with diamonds and sapphires in the signature invisible setting, or the asymmetrical open Volutes d'Hiver necklace with white opal and diamond beads. They are, like snow sparkling in the sun, bizarre patterns on frozen glass, beautiful with their cold beauty. A winter's tale brilliantly told by Van Cleef & Arpels.

1 | Symbols

Falling stars to make wishes for, a Christmas rose, light-winged butterflies, a fairy with a magic wand. As always, Van Cleef & Arpels creates a world of precious dreams. As Estelle Arpels' nephew Jacques Arpels used to say, “in order for luck to accompany you, you just need to believe in it”. And Van Cleef & Arpels will help you with lucky charms.

2 | Two-finger rings

Open rings for two fingers with decorative elements at the ends of the structure - an invention of the 1970s. The mobility of the design allows rings to be worn in different ways - closed and open.

3 | Transformers

Sophisticated technical solutions and multifunctionality of jewelry are an integral part of the jewelry language of Van Cleef & Arpels. In the new collection, for example, the bows at the ends of the open Volutes d'Hiver necklace can be detached and worn as a brooch and hair ornament.

4 | Haute couture

Couture is an important source of inspiration for home designers. The bow, which can be seen in several pieces of the new collection, first appeared at Van Cleef & Arpels in the 1910s.

5 | Butterflies

Butterflies, along with dragonflies, flew into the jewelry world of Van Cleef & Arpels in the 1920s, becoming a symbol of lightness and renewal, to which the house has constantly turned to.>
