Let's reassure conservatives right away: iOS 11 is not the most global update to Apple's mobile operating system in history, and outwardly it is not much different from what was in your iPhone yesterday. Last year's top ten, for example, brought in more new features. However, the number is not so important here - after all, iOS 11 may not change the basic principles of managing your iPhone, but it makes the system simpler and more understandable. Apple engineers did more work on the errors: they tweaked something, tweaked something here and there.
But iPad owners were much more fortunate, and in their case the update is not just recommended for installation - it must be installed. After all, iOS 11 is the best thing that's happened to an iPad in years.
talks about the most notable changes in the new version of the system.
New control room
One of the most obvious innovations of the update is that to notice it, you just need to swipe your finger from the bottom of the display. Now the control point takes up almost the entire screen, it can accommodate more shortcut icons, and therefore it has become a little more useful. It finally has 3D Touch working: if you have an iPhone 6S or higher, you can, for example, press hard on the flashlight icon and adjust the light intensity in the pop-up window. Or on the brightness adjustment column and quickly turn on / off the Night Shift mode. On the other hand, it is still impossible to quickly select an available network by clicking on the Wi-Fi icon - only manually in the settings, which is somewhat illogical.
In addition, the item can now be customized: remove unused icons and add your own - for example, a voice recorder or a remote for Apple TV. Or a button to record everything that happens on the screen. So far, this is only relevant for Apple's own applications, third-party programs are not supported.
New Files app and drag-and-drop functionality
Managing files with your iPhone is much easier with Apple's new Files app. Given the "closed" nature of iOS, the innovation came in handy.
No, Apple still doesn't allow you to directly upload files to your iPhone by simply connecting it to your computer. As well as transferring them over Bluetooth to Android devices. But through the "Files" you can very simply see almost everything that is in your cloud. Moreover, not only in iCloud - Box, Dropbox, Google Drive and One Drive are also supported. So far, clicking on one of the files in a third-party service will just transfer you to its official application, but most likely, the "single window" functionality will appear soon. But working with iCloud has become very simple: you can now create folders and drag files from other folders into them. It works in the same way as on a computer: hold your finger on the file and drag it to the right place. This is another new feature - drag and drop.
It partially existed before, but now multitouch is supported: you can drag several icons from one desktop to another with one movement. Highlighted the desired icon, and then with another finger just marked additional ones - everything is simple.
This function is fully revealed on the iPad. You can open the "Photos" application, select the desired picture, close it, open mail, start a new letter and simply "drop" the selected photo there. The system will issue the attachment automatically. Unfortunately, this trick cannot be done on the iPhone.
iPad is really useful
The Dock with docked apps can now be called from any screen with a simple swipe from the bottom. You will now have to press the Home button several times less often. From here, you can instantly switch to split screen mode. We picked up the browser icon with our finger - dragged it to the right side of the display, the notes icon - to the left, and we work. Paired applications now stay that way when multitasking. This means that by minimizing them and being distracted, for example, on Twitter, you can return both programs to the screen with one click. Previously, this would require repeating the entire procedure from the beginning. However, for the same Twitter, it is not even necessary to minimize them: you can call the third application on the screen - it will sit as if on top of the first two. They called him with a swipe, replied to the tweet, and took him back with a swipe. Apple magic as it is.And don't forget about Files and drag and drop!
You can now take notes with Apple Pencil even on the locked screen - they are automatically saved in the application. And it became much more convenient to edit screenshots: the screenshots taken are immediately shown as a thumbnail in the lower left corner of the device. By clicking on it, you will be taken to a special photo editor for screenshots. This feature works on iPhone as well.
It may seem that these changes are not so significant - and they are when considered in isolation. But in sum, they turn the iPad into a truly complete productivity tool.
Live Photos can be edited
The "Live Photos" introduced with the iPhone 6S are not a vital feature of the iPhone, but millions of people, like this author, find animated snapshots amusing. Live Photos were "cool" two years ago, and now they are "cooler" than ever.
Whereas before a live photo was essentially a piece of video going in chronological order, in iOS 11 it was allowed to manually edit the nature of the animation. For example, loop it - and moving objects in the frame will move endlessly. Or by imposing the "pendulum" effect - and the photo will be looped back from beginning to end and back. You can even recreate the effect of a slow shutter speed, leaving a long trail behind moving objects. The latter does not look very impressive so far, but the first two may well bring positive emotions.
Apple's app store has received a completely new design. The "Today" tab has appeared, where new games and applications appear regularly, provided with descriptions from editors from Apple. In fact, it is such a digital storefront: the AppStore employees choose the apps they like and seem worthy and recommend them to you.
Games got their own section - they were separated from the applications that are now in the neighborhood. The decision is correct, since the popular WhatsApp, Facebook and Vkontakte constantly hang in the top programs, and in order to find a mobile game for the time of, say, a transatlantic flight, you have to flip and scroll and flip.
The buy and download buttons have become significantly larger, and in general, Apple has redesigned the font size, which makes using the new AppStore more convenient than ever.>
