The Cannes Festival begins not at all from the red staircase of the Palais des Festivals and Congresses on Boulevard de Croisette, but from the terminals of Nice Airport, where all its guests and participants arrive. Since the 1950s, the festival has become the main cinematic and social event in Europe, where even Hollywood stars are honored to be (also thanks to the beginning of transatlantic flights). Crowds of photographers and reporters race across the landing strip straight to the ramp to document their spectacular appearances. The star's arrival turns into a whole performance with hours of posing at the airport and ends with a departure to the hotel, surrounded by a noisy escort of reporters. The images of the guests, even after many hours of flight, had to be flawless. In general, everything is exactly like in "La Dolce Vita" by Fellini.
It seemed a little time passed, but how everything has changed! Now you can't get on the takeoff field, the airport is crowded and crowded. The stars tend to run past the lenses, often closing themselves and not wanting to be photographed. Many are dressed in banal jeans or even sweatpants. But on a par with actresses and actors, models are now performing (at least everything always sits well on these). Today, the main hero of the festival is indeed the red staircase. But maybe the more interesting is the metamorphosis that occurs on it with celebrities tired of the flight.
Grace Kelly, whose visit in 1955 was the most expected, was already a real star - the winner of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts award. She showed off Kelly's style from the plane, appearing with a Hermès bag of the same name and a Chanel tweed suit.

Cary Grant and Kim Novak arrived in Cannes in 1959 for the premiere of Mid of the Night. She is in a snow-white summer coat and a boater, he is in an elegant light blazer. Together, the couple looked quite Mediterranean - she was immediately dubbed the most beautiful at the festival.
In 1962, Sophia Loren and Romy Schneider arrived at Nice airport on the same flight, without their husbands, who had arrived the day before. The actresses have definitely discussed what they will wear for a spectacular public appearance. Schneider is invariably Chanel: at this time she becomes the face of the house.

At the 16th Cannes Film Festival in 1963, the horror king Alfred Hitchcock brought his most famous painting "Birds". And together with her, the young and unknown debutante Tippi Hedren, who immediately attracted attention with her images. The director ordered all the clothes for the actress from Edith Head, the most famous costume designer in Hollywood, with whom he had just worked on the set of Birds.
Young American actress Raquel Welch by the beginning of the Cannes Film Festival in 1966 had already appeared in the film "Million Years BC" in a frivolous bikini made of animal skins. However, at the Nice airport, she appeared in front of reporters in an elegant plaid suit and, having refused a taxi, went to the hotel on a motorcycle.
