Automobili Lamborghini presented the concept of the LB48H Terzo Millenio supercar back in 2017, writes Motoring. It is the result of collaboration between Italian engineers and colleagues from the laboratories of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Together, they worked on the future of electric sports cars and focused on various aspects of technology and design, including innovative batteries, materials and propulsion systems.

“We are aware of the electrification trend. Our idea is to combine a V12 engine with a hybrid engine. Hybridization will be tuned for high performance, not just range. This is not a car that will travel 70 or 100 km on electricity alone,”noted Lamborghini Commercial Director Federico Foschini.

While the high-end automotive industry is phasing out traditional energy storage devices, Lamborghini is exploring the potential of supercapacitors. So, at the heart of the LB48H power plant is a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 battery, which is able to provide high engine power and minimize cyclical changes, which will increase the lifespan of the supercar.

At the same time, the system, as conceived by the developers, must symmetrically accumulate and operate electricity. The V12 will be responsible for rotating the rear wheels, while the front axle is shifted to the electric motor.

A distinctive feature of the LB48H Terzo Millenio is the combination of advanced technology and self-healing ability. The car independently monitors the state of the system and identifies possible deviations from the ideal.

The Lamborghini LB48H will have a mintage of only 63 cars. The number was not chosen by chance: it is a reference to the year the company was founded - 1963. All supercars are reported to have already been sold on pre-orders.>
