It may seem that the weight of 2.11 carats is not great at all. But for a deep fancy shade and VS2 clarity red diamond (certified by the Gemological Institute of America) that's a huge number. Typically, a red diamond weighs less than one carat. Argyle Everglow is the largest in the 33-year history of the Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender, an annual tender for the sale of red and pink diamonds from the Argyle mine in Western Australia. The mine is considered the main supplier of pink and red diamonds, and experts estimate that its resources will be completely depleted by 2021.
Since 1984, only 20 carats of Fancy Red diamonds have been sold at the Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender. The Argyle Everglow diamond will be one of the main lots of the current auction, called "Custodians of Rare Beauty". Bidding will end on October 11.>
